Syngonium erythrophyllum, often referred to as the “Red Arrow Syngonium,” is a highly sought-after variety due to its dramatic foliage. The plant features arrow-shaped, deep green leaves with a glossy surface and vivid red or burgundy undersides. This climbing or trailing plant is perfect for hanging baskets, trellises, or as a statement plant in a pot.

Basic Care:

1. Light:

Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light but may lose some vibrancy in its coloration. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

2. Watering:

Keep the soil evenly moist but allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause leaf edges to crisp.

3. Humidity:

Prefers high humidity levels (above 50%). Use a humidifier, or mist the plant regularly, especially in drier indoor environments.

4. Temperature:

Ideal temperatures range from 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect it from drafts, sudden temperature changes, or exposure to temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

5. Soil:

Use a well-draining, airy soil mix. Aroids thrive in mixes containing perlite, orchid bark, and peat-based potting soil.

6. Fertilizer:

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

7. Pruning:

Trim back leggy growth to encourage a fuller appearance. Remove any yellow or damaged leaves as needed.

8. Repotting:

Repot every 1–2 years or when roots outgrow the pot. Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent water stagnation.

9. Propagation:

Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Place cuttings in water or directly in moist soil, ensuring nodes are submerged for root development.

Fun Fact:

Syngonium erythrophyllum is a fast grower and can adapt to both climbing and trailing habits, making it versatile for various decorative setups. Its stunning color contrast between the leaf surfaces makes it a favorite among plant enthusiasts.
